About us
National Polish Bone Marrow Donor Registry (Krajowy Bank Dawców Szpiku - KBDSz) was established by Professor Andrzej Lange in 1994 and became a member of the world donors database BMDW. High quality of our donor-patient matching system was appreciated and confirmed by international institutions that awarded us with accreditations: European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI) and American National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP).
By the end of the March 2020 we had had over 13 360 tested donors typed in both HLA classes.
Donors in our registry are asked for searches both for Polish and international institutions. Until now, we have had 58 collections form our donors: 41 peripheral blood progenitor cells (PBPC) and 17 bone marrow cells (BM). Two donors were donated the transplant material twice. Among the 41 donations of PBPC 37 were for Polish patients and 4 for international ones; among 17 donations of BM 12 were for domestic institutions and 5 for foreign ones.
The laboratory technicians from the HLA Laboratory take part in various workshops and trainings to ensure high quality of HLA testing: External Profficiency Testing Excercise organized by professor G. Fisher from Wien, and Quality Worhskops for HLA Typing for Middle-East Europe (HLA Proficiency Testing for Central and East Europe) led by Polish Society of Immunogenetics.
